Sandra Chevrier

Sandra Chevrier

She is a Canadian artist born in 1983.
Enthralled with art since childhood, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec. Calling herself a “gaze collector,” Chevrier created a series of portraits titled “The Cages,” in which she covers attractive faces with comic collages.
“The Cages” are created on the dichotomy between power and vulnerability, freedom and captivity, and reality and imagination. Chevrier draws them between the fantastical heroine images of comics and repressed identities. She paints the eyes of the work with emotion and sensitivity. However, the faces are partially covered like masks by collages of comic book heroes as if to hide their emotions and flaws. Using superior technique and realism, she depicts the superheroes considered superhuman as just human beings, fragile, flawed, and fallible.
She has had solo and group exhibitions in many countries. In 2018, she had her first sculpture exhibit at the Museum of Art in Lancaster, California (MOAH), titled “Cage and the Allure of Freedom.” Her works are in the collections of celebrities and other art collectors worldwide.
