【Solo Exhibition】Craig Alan “Come Together”
[Upcoming Exhibition]
Artist | Craig Alan
Title | “Come Together”
AND COLLECTION Contemporary Art is pleased to announce “Come Together”, a solo exhibition by Craig Alan at our gallery.
This exhibition will feature a number of Alan’s representative works, the Populus series, in which a group of people are each grouped together to form a single portrait. The background of this series began when he was staying at his mother’s condominium in Florida and was taking photographs when he happened to see a large crowd of people at a wedding on the beach forming a large eyeball. After spending about a year and a half researching the shadows created by the people, he completed the Populus series. The figures in his works include his family and friends, and his unique and delicate touch gives each person’s clothes and figure a unique character. Each work is comprised of between 400 and 1,800 meticulously rendered figures, and each piece takes between 50 and 150 hours to complete.
For Alan, the canvas is a backdrop for the unexpected, and the images filtered through his subconscious subvert and sublimate conventional wisdom. At first glance, the work appears to be a portrait made of pointillism, but closer inspection reveals a group of small people, each grouped together to form a single picture. Alan’s creative interpretation of the most famous icons of the past and present, including world-renowned Hollywood stars, musicians, heads of state, and characters, is meticulously rendered in every detail. Motivated by the fact that pop culture never ceases and continues to grow, it symbolizes its future development and the color it will bring to our lives.
We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the world of Craig Alan.
