Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA, Libby is currently a street artist based in New York City. She spent her childhood growing up on a farm, surrounded by the beauty of nature in all its seasons. After graduating from Philadelphia University with a major in fashion, she decided to pursue filmmaking at the age of 20 and attended Hunter College to earn a degree in film production. While he initially aspired to become an actor, a series of twists and turns led her to develop her own unique art style, focusing on self-expression through street art.
Libby’s alter ego, “Phoebe New York,” is depicted as a female figure with a large head and a small mouth. Phoebe contrasts with Libby’s charming character; she is sarcastic, a bit angry, yet also loving and intelligent. While considering her position in society and the world, she conveys her thoughts without using many words. Reflecting on her emotions, Libby channels her vulnerability and raw feelings through Phoebe. The works she creates carry messages like “Fear Nothing” and “Never Quit,” stemming from a strong desire to overcome the traumas of his childhood. Phoebe utilizes imperfect materials that have been previously owned, such as vintage photographs, magazine clippings, clothing, old books, and record jackets. Reminiscent of the past yet timeless, Libby’s collages layer elements from various eras, and the concept of “time” is reborn through Phoebe. The beauty emanating from these works, crafted from imperfect materials, can be likened to the lives we each lead.
Libby and Phoebe have had the privilege of collaborating with renowned fashion brands such as Victoria Beckham Beauty, Dr. Martens, Lululemon, and Rag & Bone, and they have exhibited their work in solo and group exhibitions as well as art fairs around the world.
