Anja Van Herle

She was born in Belgium in 1969. She currently lives and works as an artist in L.A.Since childhood, she has been interested in fashion design. She learned the fundamentals of various painting techniques such as crayon, pencil, watercolor, and painted portraits.
In 1987, she entered Belgium’s leading Higher Institute for Fine Arts (commonly known as HISK), where she received a master’s degree in painting.
Since 2003, she has been based in Los Angeles. She explores issues of identity, emotional change, and human relationships that each person has in their way and outputs them in her artworks.
Her work takes a sense of European high fashion and likens it to beautiful, expressive women, suggesting the emotional complexity conveyed by their subtle expressions.
To some, the expression may appear pensive; to others, it may appear charming. Connecting these emotional meanings to work, the artist challenges the viewers to hold diverse interpretations.
